Specializing in Steelhead and Salmon Fishing in the Great Northwest.

Meet Your Guide

My name is Paul Ockerman and my goal is to make your fishing trip comfortable, successful, safe, fun, and personalized.  I would enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience with you fishing for salmon and steelhead on Washington’s premier rivers using a variety of techniques and top-notch gear.

I am both licensed and insured to fish for salmon and steelhead.  Most recently I was granted a U.S. Coast Guard Captain's License.  In addition, I am one of only a dozen Guides licensed to guide in the incredible Olympic National Park on the Queets River.

I have been fishing for over 35 years on these beautiful Northwest rivers.  I operate a 2007 Riverwolf drift-boat that has diamond-plate level floors, padded seats, and a heater with a blower.  I can accommodate up to three clients on this boat (depending on technique being used, sometimes only two can fish at a time).  My jet-sled is a 2007 20’ Alumaweld with padded seats, lots of room, and plenty of power.  I can accommodate up to 4 clients very comfortably.

I am skilled using a variety of techniques including side-drifting, back-bouncing, spinners, plugs, floats, and bait-divers.  Book a trip with me and I will ensure you are not disappointed!

Equipment

I utilize top of the line St. Croix rods with ABU Garcia reels on casting rods and Okuma Epixor reels on spinning rods.  I have rods for each different technique making switching from one technique to another fast and effortless.  I believe you’ll find my equipment very dependable and enjoyable.  I prefer you leave your gear at home, although it may be nice, I will have my gear ready to go and will be set up for the type of fish we are pursuing.

In addition to providing all the equipment, boat, and knowledge, I will take digital pictures of you and your big catch and send them to you via email or mail copies to you.  The pictures will also be posted on my web-site for others to enjoy.

You must provide:

Warm layered clothing, rain gear, hat, sunglasses, shoes or boots, camera, lunch, snacks, and beverages.   You must have a current, valid Washington State license and catch card for targeted species.

*I have extra rain gear, hats, gloves and oversized floatation vests upon request.

It's that time of year again, the time when we are chasing those incredible steelhead in the finest rivers in the world to catch and retain nice hatchery fish. From what I'm seeing so far, the early returns have been outstanding, with good numbers of fish in most of the coastal rivers including a good showing of Cowlitz A-run fish. I only have a few spot left in January and February and March are starting to book. Don't let this winter fishery pass yo u by, I still have plenty of seats left if you want to get in on some fantastic fishing.
